Carl H is a proud Cleethorpes native with a huge contribution to the electronic music scene. He’s a record label owner (ANIMALS ON PSYCHEDELICS), promoter, radio show host and most significantly DJ. He is a widely respected selector with a vast and interesting record collection that he’s been collecting for just under 10 years and spans every aspect of electronic music. Anybody that has heard carl play will confirm his sets are full of weird and wonderful rare and unheard of gems ranging right across house, techno, electro, rave, acid and everything else in-between. He has promoted and held residencies at parties such as Northern Purpose, Collective Minds (Birmingham) Sub:System (London) as well as hosting his own parties at Chalet club in Berlin. Club der Visionaere, Grelle Forelle, Field Manoeuvrers and Nightmoves are amongst the many places he’s played across the UK and around Europe. Recently Carl started his own record label Animals On Psychedelics where he is proudly showcasing music by his friends and favourite producers. His radio show that bares the same name as his label on Leeds station KMAH is currently going from strength to strength, on a monthly basis he showcases his record collection and invites his friends from around the UK for guest sets.
John Rowe , the Hypnohouse Techno Blog/Label owner, prolific and internationally respected producer and free-party legend will play his recent EBM-influenced live show. With many vinyl releases spanning longer than a decade, this month marks a milestone in his first vinyl release on his own label -Hypnotech Records. Having had support from the likes of PERC, his pedigree is unquestionable. Anybody who was at our Old Police Hosue party last year will remember him well. Enjoy his regular Hypnotek radio show on fnoobtechno.com.
Backdrop residents Dr. Joseph & Simon will be in support. Having opened for Helena Hauff, Jane Fitz, Objekt, Move D, Kobosil, Levon Vincent and more, they are now being recognised outside of Newcastle as selectors in their own right. With a festival slot at Field Maneuvers this year, alongside the likes of Midland, Ben Sims and Volvox, we are proud to still have Backdrop opened by those who know the home crowd best.
Room 2 will play host to The GBL, an interactive blog started up by Will McElroy, Anthony Dudou and Rory O’Hara whilst they were studying in Newcastle; the underground techno and house night based in the Toon, Rob Moller & Nicky Mann of Ctrl Newcastle will be on closing duties, utilising their collection and ability to go deeper in the 4×4 spectrum and groovier with more disco sounds; whilst Jake Coates, a relative newcomer and Stack The Wax founder with recent shows at 212 bar in Leeds and the Bradford Brewery, will be opening proceedings.
