On Friday January 13th we welcomed the much anticipated return of arguably Backdrop’s favourite DJ, the mighty Jane Fitz. Having debuted in Newcastle for us almost a year ago to the day, we cannot wait for her return for another wild, transcendent trip. Since our last party she has played all over the world, from New York to Paris, Berlin to Tokyo, Moscow to Rajasthan, and is able to lay it down in all settings from fields to clubs, boats, mountains, deserts, warehouses, beaches and basements, always bringing a hard-to-categorise selection that blends early UK acid house with deep, psychedelic house and techno. Her career was built on her DJing alone – not on productions, or associations with record labels or FM radio, and for that reason she is one of the most talented in the game. Her own productions as one half of Invisible Menders have landed most recently onANIMALS ON PSYCHEDELICS and Dr. Joseph & Simon recently had the pleasure of playing after her and label owner Carl Hardy where “Midnight Drive (Menders’ Re-Stitch)” closed the afters… A truly beautiful record that demonstrates her obvious production talent as well.
Gottwood Festival, Freerotation, Berghain Panorama Bar, Tresor, Rural festival (Japan), Closer (Ukraine), Concrete and Secretsundaze know she is essential to dancers leaving their party having experienced a unique musical journey. We do too. Nobody has ever played Backdrop twice, our friend Jane is the one we trust to do so with typically wild finesse. Having been inundated with requests to bring her back after last time, we are honoured she agreed.
