John Rowe is an internationally respected recording artist, DJ/producer, friend to Backdrop, and owner of Hypnohouse Label Group, with an incredible energy and verve to his live performance – as those of you in attendance at Backdrop and UU at The Old Police House will know, when John tore the roof off in probably the most furious live performance we’ve experienced. One partygoer, who asked to remain anonymous, described the experience: ‘an unforgettable night in an iconic North Eastern Venue. John Rowe absolute trashed me. I feel like I’ve been picked up and dragged face first into the belly of the beast and I absolutely loved it. Is there more?’ Plenty more, sir, not to worry.
Despite being born, bred and based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, John’s unique brand of mesmerising techno can be heard anywhere from the underground squat parties of the UK to the biggest clubs on the planet (Cocoon/ Amnesia/ Circo Loco/ DC 10/ Boiler Room/ Tresor/ Berghain).
John’s extensive back catalogue of quirky rave-infused acid house and tough techno spans a decade, with regular releases on legendary techno labels like Stay up Forever, Bonzai, Planet Techno, Yolk, Flatlife and his own Hypnohouse Trax imprint. Most of which have rightly landed him at the top end of the techno download charts if not the top.
John is also known and respected for his solid remix work (remixing nearly 100 artists). He has a residency on Fnoob Techno Radio and is also an avid record collector, which has lead to him spinning vinyl for numerous promoters and party crews accross the UK and Europe for nearly two decades. John’s performance before Perc at Milk The Cow was also a hugely lauded performance, and lucky you if you were fortunate enough to be there – for those who weren’t, join us at Backdrop this July for some Northern Techno.
Fresh from launching his new vinyl label ‘Hypnotech Records’ John brings his diverse new live show to Backdrop on July 21st this year, where he headlines Cosmic Ballroom’s main room alongside Carl H (with Dr. Joseph & Simon in support), expect powerful grooving techno and hypnotic acid-house improvisations performed entirely on hardware. Also look out for an upcoming podcast from John Rowe, which is sure to be thrilling and wild, and we can’t wait to host.
